Elderly Care Services | Introducing Our Nurse, Harriet, and Exploring Her Journey into Care

Elderly Care Services | Introducing Our Nurse, Harriet, and Exploring Her Journey into Care

This week, we’re introducing Harriet, one of our nurses here at Priesty Fields.

In this post, we’ll be sharing Harriet’s journey into care and her nursing role within our elderly care services:

Harriet’s Journey into Care

Qualifying as a nurse 6 years ago, Harriet began her journey working in HDU/ICU (the high dependency and intensive care units), where she stayed for 2 years. She then moved to a larger hospital, working at first on surgical wards, before becoming a specialist acute pain nurse.

It was whilst she was in this role that Harriet then applied for the position here at Priesty Fields.

The role of a nurse in elderly care services includes building a rapport with our residents, helping to support them in our person-centred care model.

Getting to know our residents personally can help our team identify changes in their physical or emotional wellbeing, and adapt their care plans accordingly.

Our nurses also administer medication and liaise with our various different teams to ensure our residents are receiving up-to-date and efficient care.

They also help to promote the wellbeing of our residents, supporting them with living independently – within their capabilities – and helping to improve their mobility.

Supporting Independence

Elderly Care Services: Nursing Care

Harriet said, “I applied for the role at Priesty Fields because I love the innovative ideas and design. I also love the emphasis the team has on a holistic care approach and maintaining residents’ independence.

“I’m very much looking forward to getting to know the residents and building a relationship with them and their families.

“It’s difficult in the acute hospital setting to find the time to have conversations with patients. I’m looking forward to working in a care setting that will allow me to do this.

“Priesty Fields is unique to other care homes because of the quality of its construction. I like that the design centres around the needs of the residents. I would describe Priesty Fields as innovative, resident-centred and caring.”

Here at Priesty Fields, the design of our home supports us with delivering exemplary elderly care services. For example, our rooms are spacious, which gives our residents the freedom to move around, whilst allowing room for any equipment needed to safely deliver their care.

We place a heavy focus on being patient-led, ensuring that our residents have a say in the planning, delivery and future of their own care.

Elderly Care Services: Working at Priesty Fields

Here at Priesty Fields, the happiness of our team is just as important as that of our residents. The staff break out room, for example, is a bright, comfortable and private space for them to recharge between shifts.

We also offer a range of benefits, such as a perks scheme that gives them access to a range of discounts in various shops and restaurants.

Harriet said, “The staff I will be working with seem very friendly and I like that they share the same opinions on resident care as me.

“I think that the most rewarding part of working in care will be having a family at work, as well as at home.

“In my spare time, I enjoy walking my dog, shopping, and drinking cocktails!”
